I GO BACK

Description from YouTube

They say you can’t go back

Well those old losers are just full of don’ts and can’ts...”

Don’ts and can’ts!--what a wonderful way of putting it. We’ve all known people who are “full of don’ts and can’ts.”

Here is a funny, irreverent story that takes place entirely within the mind of a clueless jerk looking for his “hundredth second chance” in the bottom of a bottle, or several bottles. Eventually, in an alcohol-driven delusion, he reaches his goal. She’s come back (in his mind) but he’s such a jerk that he now wants her to beg! It’s a colorful slice-of-life--told in quick strokes--about the sort of a guy who rarely gets songs written about him but are all too common in this world and all too real.

This is a lyric idea that might have been handled with the slinging of blame, him seeing the error of his ways, and the evocation of pity for the hapless fool who promises to reform. The lyric writer here is having none of that. And that is why this song is real, and not a trivial piece of fluff.
