THAT WON’T BE US
Words and music by Eric Wrobbel
Description from
In the best songwriter tradition, this song conjures up images in the mind of the listener that no video could capture. And so no attempt is made in this video to supplant what the listener might imagine. The lyric writer’s canvas is the mind, not the video screen. It is hoped that what is here onscreen does not limit the listener from feeling the weight and power of this song in his or her own personal way.
Separation and divorce are difficult matters. A wide range of feeling can accompany the experience, from grief and sadness to joy and relief--and often unusual combinations of all these feelings. This song doesn’t stake out a positive or negative posture about separation. And that’s what gives it its universal appeal. Every person in every failed relationship, no matter if despondent or elated at its dissolution, has a memory of what it once felt like to look forward to the future with their relationship partner. This song tracks the loss of that.
